Your buyer’s purchase order is increasingly conditional on a certificate. European and UK retail chains, private-label packers and most large importers now treat a recognised food-safety certification as the entry ticket rather than a differentiator — and an otherwise excellent kernel from an uncertified plant simply does not get quoted. This service closes that gap: we take a cashew processing plant from wherever it stands today to the point where an accredited certification body can audit it with a realistic prospect of passing.
CASHEW TECH comes at this from the plant side rather than the paperwork side. We design factory layouts with hygienic zoning, and we audit running plants for yield and condition, so we tend to see the physical reasons an audit fails — the shared doorway, the drain in the wrong place, the wall you cannot clean — as readily as the missing procedure. Certification guidance is the natural extension of that work, not a separate desk exercise.
What Certification Guidance Covers
The engagement is built around the gap between the standard’s requirements and your plant as it actually operates, and then closing that gap in a sensible order.
- Gap assessment — a structured walk of the plant and its records against the specific standard you are targeting, producing a written list of findings ranked by what will stop an audit versus what will merely be noted.
- HACCP plan — hazard analysis across the real process flow, critical control points identified and justified, critical limits set, and the monitoring, corrective action and verification that each one requires. Aflatoxin, foreign body and allergen hazards get particular attention in cashew.
- Prerequisite programmes — the foundations a HACCP plan rests on and auditors examine first: cleaning and sanitation, pest control, water quality, glass and hard plastic control, chemical storage, waste, maintenance, and personnel hygiene.
- Traceability and recall — lot coding from raw nut intake to packed carton, a mass-balance exercise that reconciles, and a mock recall you can evidence.
- Document system — the procedures, work instructions, forms and records the standard expects, written to match how your plant genuinely runs rather than a template that describes someone else’s factory.
- Internal and mock audit — your own internal audit programme established, then a full mock audit run as the certification body would run it, with the corrective actions closed out before the real visit.
Which Standards We Prepare For
- HACCP — the Codex-based foundation almost every other scheme assumes. The groundwork is set out in setting up a HACCP-certified cashew processing plant.

Certification is a separate track from the licences and approvals that let you operate at all. Those are sequenced in the licensing stack.
Designed In, Not Bolted On
The cheapest certification work happens before anything is built. Hygienic zoning, a one-way material flow from raw nut to packed kernel, separated personnel routes, cleanable surfaces, drainage that runs the right way and a layout that keeps raw and finished product genuinely apart are close to free on a drawing and expensive once there is concrete. When certification is part of the brief, we build these requirements into the factory layout and plant design from the first sketch, and into the plant itself where we deliver it as a turnkey project.
If certification is anywhere in your five-year plan, say so at design stage even if you have no intention of pursuing it yet. Designing for a standard you never apply for costs very little. Retrofitting one into a finished building costs a great deal.
Bringing an Existing Plant Up to Standard
For a running factory the work starts with an honest look at the current state, which is what our plant audit and capacity calibration already does — the ground it covers is listed in the plant audit checklist. From there the findings split into three groups: procedural gaps that close in weeks with discipline and record-keeping, equipment and surface work that can be scheduled around production, and structural changes that need a shutdown or a build. Sequencing those correctly is most of the value, because attacking them in the wrong order means paying for building work to fix something a procedure would have covered.

A gap assessment report with ranked findings; a complete HACCP plan; a prerequisite programme set; the document and record system, issued in editable form so it stays yours; internal audit records and a closed-out corrective action log; and a readiness view before you book the certification body.
Scope and Engagement
Every engagement is scoped to the plant, the standard and the starting point — a new build designed for BRCGS from day one and a twenty-year-old factory chasing its first HACCP certificate are different pieces of work, and we would rather quote against your actual situation than publish a number that fits neither. Work is usually a mix of on-site assessment and remote document development. Tell us which standard your buyer is asking for and where your plant stands, and we will come back with a scope.
One thing worth being plain about: we prepare, we do not certify. The certificate comes from an accredited certification body after their own audit, and any consultant who implies otherwise is worth avoiding. Our work is judged by whether that audit goes well.
